Origin

Stara Sokolova is based on two century long tradition of Bogdanovic family from the village Kostojevic near Bajina Basta. It got its name from the region of its origin. The part of the Western Serbia at the watershed of the river Drina was called Sokolska Nahija (Falcon Region) from the medieval fort town Soko (Falcon). In the Falcon Region, tradition of growing and processing plums always had highest priority. Plums were eaten fresh, dried for the winter times, used for making jam and "slatko" but most of them were used for producing naturally distilled brandy slivovitz. Good slivovitz was not only the greatest pride of every household but its basis of its economic wealth. At the time when money was not reliable and no banks were around, slivovitz was mean for a people to save for the future. Aging is in no way harmful to slivovitz. On the contrary it increases it quality and value.

Families were recognized by how how good their slivovitz was. Well known Bogdanovic family from village Kostojevici was famous for the great quality of traditional plums trnovaca and exelent slivovitz made from those plums. Their slivovitz of uniquely smooth and silky taste sold across Western Serbia for almost two centuries. Some of the legends about their slivovitz were described in literature like in book "Coctail Manhatn" by Milomir Djukanovic.
